Scattered storms will continue to across portions of the east central to southeastern plains of New Mexico. Storms will be capable of producing heavy downpours, hail, gusty downburst winds, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Storms will generally drift eastward at 10 to 15 mph.
A back door front will continue to slide down the plains and westward through the gaps of the central mountain chain tonight. Gusts to 40 mph are possible in the Rio Grande Valley. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop across the eastern plains, most widely so south of I-40. Small hail, gusty winds and heavy rain are possible.
An upper low will develop over the AZ/CA border, drawing increased moisture further west. The increased moisture, combined with a diverging air flow aloft will increase the coverage of storms across the state Wednesday afternoon.
Dew point temperature is one of many parameters used to monitor moisture surges of the North American Monsoon across the Southwestern U.S.
