Another day of near record to record heat across the Land of Enchantment today, with afternoon storms possible over the NE plains.
A Heat Advisory is in effect this afternoon for western NM and portions of the eastern plains including most of Chaves county and Quay county.
Increased instability could allow for a few storms to become severe over the NE plains this afternoon and evening, with hail, frequent lightning, and strong downburst winds being the main hazards.
Heat can be a major killer! Remember to hydrate and drink lots of water. Educate yourself on the forecast and the signs of heat- related illness. Act quicly if heat illness is suspected. Take it easy while working outdoors or partaking in recreational activities.
It's Lightning Awareness Week! Most of New Mexico lightning events occur during the spring and summer months in the afternoon and evening. When thunder roars, go indoors!
Yesterday's high and low temperatures and precipitation.
