Isolated storms developed between Las Vegas and Santa Rosa and may increase in coverage overnight across portions of eastern New Mexico.
Moisture will back into the plains tonight, and showers and thunderstorms are expected to erupt once again. Locally heavy rainfall is possible. While the plains see more rain, portions of western NM will see freezing temperatures.
The coldest temperatures since mid May are likely over northern and central NM tonight. Now is the time to prepare your home for the cool season.
Widespread freezing conditions are expected across northwest NM tonight. Areas such as Grants, Gallup and Farmington will see a few hours of sub-freezing conditons.
Storms will come back to eastern New Mexico Monday thanks in part to a backdoor cold front. High temperatures across western New Mexico will be a couple degrees warmer than Sunday's.
The potential for heavy rains across the eastern plains has prompted a Flash Flood Watch from noon today through 6am Sunday morning. Areas could see 2"-3" of rainfall, locally up to 5".
Dew point temperature is one of many parameters used to monitor moisture surges of the North American Monsoon across the Southwestern U.S.
