Showers and a few thunderstorms will race northeast over portions of central and eastern New Mexico this afternoon. Other showers and storms will develop over the western and northern mountains. Small hail and gusty winds to around 40 mph are possible with the storms along with quick bursts of locally heavy rain.
Backdoor front pushes further west today, sparking afternoon storms to the continental divide. Temperatures well below average across the east, 15-20F below average.
Scattered storms will persist into the overnight hours tonight. Gusty canyon winds will also pick up again tonight into ABQ and Santa Fe. Despite well below normal daytime highs, overnight lows will remain near to above average.
The combination of a back door cold front and an upper level low pressure system will cause precipitation chances to increase through Wednesday. Abundant clouds and precipitation will keep temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal.
Widespread precipitation is expected to impact northern and central New Mexico through Thursday Night with many locations observing between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rainfall through this time.
Yesterday's observed Highs, Lows, and Precipitation for New Mexico.
