Winds will increase very quickly this morning as an upper level trough and associated cold front race through New Mexico today. The strongest winds will impact the area from the east slopes of the central mountain chain eastward across the plains.
There will also be fire weather concerns across east central areas due to strong winds and low humidity.
Windy conditions with very low humidity and above normal temperatures will create extreme critical fire weather conditions across portions of NM today, particularly the eastern plains.
Temperatures will average below normal the next five days. Windy conditions today will lead into breezy conditions Friday followed by slightly breezes through the weekend. Late winter gardening enthusiasts will need to protect cool season crops from several hard freezes.
