Storms will continue along and near the Continental Divide, especially south of Interstate 40, this afternoon and move to the south and southeast. A few of the storms will be strong to severe with large hail, wind gusts up to 60 mph as well as brief heavy rain and dangerous cloud to ground lightning. Other storms will form over the Jemez and northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening between the Divide and east slopes of the central mountain chain to include the Rio Grande Valley. An even more active day is expected Sunday.
An active night with showers and thunderstorms, a few of which will be strong to severe. Locally heavy rain expected. A Convective Mesoscale System (an organized complex of showers and thunderstorms) could form over the east during the night.
Sunday looks to be the most active thunderstorm day of the new week. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected across the area. A few severe storms are possible, especially central and eastern areas.
