THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AMARILLO HAS COMPLETED AN ASSESSMENT
OF THE MAY 15 2009 SEVERE WEATHER EVENT THAT OCCURRED PRIMARILY
ACROSS ROBERTS AND GRAY COUNTIES. THIS REPORT IS PRELIMINARY AND IS
SUBJECT TO REVISION BASED ON ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WHICH MAY
BE RECEIVED. THE ASSESSMENT IS BASED ON A COMBINATION OF AN OFFICIAL
NWS DAMAGE SURVEY...VIDEO EVIDENCE...SPOTTER AND EYE-WITNESS
REPORTS...AND RADAR DATA. AT LEAST 5 TORNADOES WERE CONFIRMED ALONG
WITH CONSIDERABLE WIND DAMAGE FROM DOWNBURST WINDS. THE FIRST TWO
TORNADOES WERE IN ROBERTS COUNTY AND THE OTHER THREE OCCURRED IN GRAY
COUNTY. THERE WAS ONLY ONE KNOWN INJURY. A DRIVER OF A SEMI TRUCK
THAT WAS BLOWN ABOUT AND OVERTURNED IN THE EF2 TORNADO SUFFERED A
BROKEN SHOULDER. A DETAILED TORNADO ACCOUNT IS PROVIDED BELOW...

SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE FROM THE TORNADO...ABOUT 4 MILES EAST OF PAMPA. IN
ADDITION...AT LEAST 4 OTHER HOMES SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE FROM
DOWNBURST WINDS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE TORNADO...1 TO 3 MILES EAST
OF PAMPA. SEVERAL OTHER STRUCTURES AND VEHICLES WERE ALSO DAMAGED...
INCLUDING A SEMI TRUCK AND A MOTOR HOME. ONE INJURY OCCURRED TO THE
SEMI TRUCK DRIVER. TREES AND POWER POLES ALSO SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE
DAMAGE.

THIS WAS A MULTI VORTEX TORNADO. SEVERAL HOMES AND OTHER STRUCTURES
RECEIVED MINOR TO MODERATE DAMAGE IN LEFORS DUE TO THE TORNADO AND
DOWNBURST WINDS. WIDESPREAD TREE DAMAGE ALSO OCCURRED DUE TO THE
TORNADO AND DOWNBURST WINDS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. NO INJURIES WERE
REPORTED.
