A National Weather Service Damage Assessment Team has surveyed the storm damage in Blount County and has determined that the damage was caused by a weak tornado.
The tornado touched on the northern most ball field in Blountsville Park, where it ripped the tin roofing off the dugouts and carried them to a tree line approximately 300 to 400 yards down the path. The tornado continued to the north-northeast and crossed Park Drive, striking a well-built single family home. A portion of the roofing on the leeward (north) side of the home was torn off and deposited about 50 yards to the southeast (150 degree heading). Lawn furniture from a deck also on the leeward side of the home was lifted and tossed into the trees about 100 yards to the southeast (130 degree heading). Insulation from the roof was also plastered onto the north face of a substantial brick chimney on the back of the house. One large oak tree with a poor root system was uprooted Just to the right of the short tornado path.
