Wintry conditions from the Midwest to New England

A storm system developing in the Great Plains will bring wintry weather to the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast through the weekend into Monday. A swath of heavy snow is forecast from southern WI and northern IL eastward to Upstate NY. Numerous Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for these areas. Isolated showers continue along the coastal counties into tonight with patchy fog developing overnight. Low temperatures across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley expected to be in the upper 40s to low 50s. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for offshore Gulf waters, while all small craft should exercise caution off of the lower Texas coast. Coastal flooding and seas running up beaches or covering narrow beaches to the dunes is expected to continue through tonight. Remember, motorists should exercise caution in driving through areas of fog, while using low beam headlights and allowing for more time to travel to their destinations.
Temperatures rebound as we move into the latter half of the weekend and the new work week, with above normal temperatures returning. A mix of sun and clouds and generally dry conditions are expected through Wednesday. The next cold front will move across the region during the day Thursday bringing cooler temperatures and another shot at rain.
