Tsunami Awareness Month Underway in Hawaii


The Hawaii House of Representatives presents a proclamation to the John Jones, NWS Deputy Director, and Jim Weyman, Acting Director, NWS Pacific Region.

The Hawaii House of Representatives presents a proclamation to the NWS declaring April Tsunami Awareness Month. Left to Right, Rep. Willie Espero, Ewa Beach District and sponsor of the proclamation; John Jones, NWS Deputy Director; Jim Weyman, Acting Director, NWS Pacific Region; Brian Yanagi, Tsunami Program Manager, Hawaii State Civil Defense; Jeanne Johnston, survivor of the 1946 tsunami which claimed 159 lives in Hawaii; House Majority Speaker Calvin Say; Rep. Jerry Chang; and Rep. Helene Hale.


  Chip McCreery, Director of NWS's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (right) completes an appearance on KidScience, a live educational program airing on public television in Hawaii. This is one of many public awareness activities being conducted during Tsunami Awareness Month. KidScience host Patty Miller (left) was also joined by Hawaii Civil Defense tsunami program manager Brian Yanagi (center).
