Ken King, Central Region Hydrologic Sciences
Division Chief, retired on June 1, 2006, after 35 years, 11
months, of service to the American people. Ken's career began
in June 1966, when he was selected for an Engineer Aid position
with the Corp of Engineers in Kansas City. In June 1972, Ken
took a position as Hydraulic Engineer with the Corps.
In February 1977, Ken moved from the Corps to the National
Weather Service by taking a Hydrologist position at the Missouri
Basin River Forecast Center. In December 1978, Ken moved to
Regional Headquarters as a Hydrologist and Computer Specialist.
Ken notably worked as the Regional Flash Flood Coordinator and an
important member of the AFOS Task Team from 1978 through 1984.
In October, 1995, Ken was selected to the position of Regional
Hydrologist and in February, 1998, Ken was selected as a Division
Chief.
Ken and his wife, Kathy, intend on staying in Parkville but I bet
they get to Breckenridge, CO, a lot more often in the future.
I know I speak for all of the National Weather Service when I
wish Ken the best in retirement.
