Tucson, AZ, Service Hydrologist Mike Schaffner and Tohono O'odham Nation Hydrologist Daniel Hartley inspect a new gaging station at Fresnal Canyon. The site uses radio telemetry and is operated by the Tohono O'odham Nation Water Resources Department. It contains a sonic sensor for depth to water, a temperature sensor, and a rain gage. Radio antenna and solar panel are located well above ground level to discourage vandalism. This gage will provide an invaluable source of ground-truth from a previously data sparse portion of Tucson's western CWA. Photo by Angel Corona, Tucson OPL.

WFO Jackson, MS, recently participated in Family Night at the Madison, MS, Chick-Fil-A restaurant. Several families and numerous children stopped by the office's display to observe the office's "pet tornado" and to discuss the many types of severe weather experienced in Mississippi. Here, Meteorologist-in-Charge Alan Gerard (left) and Meteorologist Intern Ashley Wester (right) answer questions about tornado development and severe weather safety from Mr. Cow (from Chick-Fil-A) and a child.
