Tornadoes associated with a Severe Squall Line that affected South Texas on June 2nd 2010

Tornado Tracks

Summary

During the late evening on June 2nd 2010, 4 separate tornadoes developed along a severe squall line that was rapidly moving through South Texas and the adjacent waters. These tornadoes tracked through Bee, San Patricio, Refugio, Aransas and Nueces counties. Tornadoes are typically rated by the damage in which they do. This scale is called the Enhanced F-Scale. An EF-2 rating was given to the tornado that tracked through Aransas county, just west of Rockport. An EF-1 rating was given to the tornado that tracked through extreme southern Bee and northwestern San Patricio county, southeast of Tynan. An EF-0 rating was given to the other two short track tornadoes that affected areas just north of Chapman Ranch in Nueces county and just southeast of Woodsboro in Refugio county.

            796. THE TORNADO WAS 1/4 MILE WIDE AND ON THE GROUND FOR
            7.5 MILES TRAVELING EAST THROUGH CROP FIELDS ALONG THE
            BEE AND SAN PATRICIO COUNTY LINE. CROPS WERE
            FLATTENED...SEVERAL LARGE CROP SPRINKLERS WERE FLIPPED
            OVER...A SHED WAS PARTIALLY DESTROYED...AND POWER POLES
            WERE SNAPPED ALONG THE PATH. MAX WIND SPEEDS OF UP TO 90
            MPH WERE ESTIMATED.

            AN NWS SURVEY FOUND AN EF-0 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN 1/4 MILE
            SOUTH OF HWY 286 AND CR 18. THE TORNADO WAS ON THE GROUND
            FOR 1/2 MILE TRAVELING NORTHEAST THROUGH CROP FIELDS. 
            WIDTH WAS ROUGHLY 10-20 YARDS WIDE BASED UPON CROP DAMAGE
            OBSERVED. MAX WIND SPEEDS OF 70-80 MPH WERE ESTIMATED.

            AN NWS SURVEY FOUND AN EF-0 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN A
            GRAIN FIELD 5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF WOODSBORO NEAR LEVIEN
            ROAD AND FM 3037. THE TORNADO WAS 20 YARDS WIDE AND ON
            THE GROUND FOR 1/4 MILE. CROPS WERE FLATTENED ALONG THE
            PATH. WIND SPEEDS OF 70-80 MPH WERE ESTIMATED.

06/02/2010  F2               ARANSAS            TX   NWS STORM SURVEY

            A NWS SURVEY TEAM FOUND AN EF-2 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN 4 
            MILES WEST OF ROCKPORT. THE TORNADO WAS ON THE GROUND FOR
            3.75 MILES TRAVELING SOUTHEAST AND ENDING NEAR BYPASS 35 
            AND 16TH STREET...AND HAD A MAXIMUM WIDTH OF 3/10THS OF A
            MILE. SEVERAL HOMES WERE DAMAGED...RV FLIPPED...4 BOATS 
            DAMAGED. A HOME WEATHER STATION RECORDED A PEAK WIND GUST
            TO 103 MPH BEFORE FAILING. OVER 20 LARGE HIGH TENSION 
            POLES WERE SNAPPED COMPLETELY OFF ALONG HIGHWAY 1069. MAX
            WINDS OF 115-120 MPH WERE ESTIMATED.
