A line of thunderstorms produced winds over 60 mph in several areas of North Georgia. Many counties reported trees and power lines knocked down.

July 23, 2000...
A severe "supercell" thunderstorm produced widespread wind damage...hail and tornadoes across Pickens, Dawson, Hall and Banks counties.

April 3, 2000...
Predawn tornadoes near Cedartown and Lawrenceville damaged many homes.
Another (weak) tornado struck near Griffin later in the day.

January 2000...
The "2K Double Whammy". Ice storms on consecutive weekends affected wide areas during January 2000 - including Super Bowl Sunday.

May 7, 1999...
Tornado strikes Bremen, Ga. The storm began its destruction in Carroll County before crossing into Haralson. A NWS survey team filed a report with damage photos.

April 15, 1999...
"The Tax Day Tornado" that hit Vienna, Ga destroyed or severely damaged about 25 percent of the town. NEXRAD radar images of this tornadic thunderstorm.

Sept 28 - 30, 1998...
"Georges" produced soaking rains, flooding, a few tornadoes and wind damage in parts of southern Georgia.

April 9, 1998...
Tornadoes deal death and destruction to parts of North Georgia in the early morning hours. Get the story and/or the pictures.

March 31, 1998...
3 injured as severe thunderstorm winds demolish a mobile home in Gordon County .

March 20, 1998...
A tornado cuts a path of destruction and takes 12 lives in Northeast Georgia.

November 21, 1997...
Severe thunderstorms caused considerable damage in westcentral Georgia . NWS meteorologist Gary Davey filed this report.

July 22-23, 1997...
Remnants of Hurricane Danny crossed northern Georgia. The NWS doppler radar shows where heaviest rains fell. Danny was also responsible for a limited amount of wind damage.

July '97...
Microburst "totals" 5 planes and damages several more at Griffin Airport.





 
July 8, 1997...
A "garden variety" thunderstorm, descibed by an eyewitness as "mediocre", caused damage and injuries near Lake Sinclair . The National Weather Service's Gary Davey conducted a site survey the next day.

May 2, 1997...
Georgia's first "killer tornado" in 1997 struck Walker County (south of Chattanooga TN). A radar image and report on what happened is now available.

April 22, 1997...
Severe thunderstorms raked much of northern and central Georgia. Large hail occured in many areas. At least one location reported hail the size of SOFTBALLS! Trees and power lines were downed as well, causing damage to cars and homes.

A report on this event is now available - including a map indicating how much of the area was affected.
