Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does the page not respond to my attempts to navigate or change forecast images?

A: This page requires that JavaScript be enabled in order to function properly.   Javascript can be enabled in the browser's preferences area. In Internet Explorer, this can be found under "Tools", "Internet Options", "Security" Tab, "Custom Level...", then make sure that "Scripting" is enabled.  In Mozzilla or Netscape, under "Tools", "Options", in the "Web Features" section, make sure JavaScript is enabled.

Q: Why is the rollover image selection chart sometimes 12 hours off from the graphics displayed?

A: Unfortunately, the daytime to nighttime and nighttime to daytime transition is not instantaneous. As a result, the possibility of catching the page updating for this switch is present. When this occurs, the graphics will appear to be 12 hours old. Try refreshing your web browser within a few moments when the switchover is complete.

Q: How can I learn more about the National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD)? Where can I get the raw data? XML?

A: You can get more information, including links to the raw NDFD grib2 data and XML information at: http://www.weather.gov/ndfd/.

Q: Has anything been done to account for color blindness?

A: Due to the graphical (and colorful) nature of this site, considerations have been made for people who cannot distinguish colors. Despite these efforts, some shades may be somewhat more difficult to distinguish.   A Color Blindness Tool can be accessed by clicking here, which may assist in reading the graphics.
