Stormy Weather in the Northwest; Fire Weather Threat Redeveloping in Southern California this Weekend

An active fall storm pattern in the Pacific Northwest is bringing heavy rain and high elevation snow to the region which will persist through this weekend. Strong winds associated with this system will bring a renewed period of critical fire weather to southern California later this weekend into next week. Read More >

High clouds will clutter the skies today, but plenty of sunshine will filter through. Temperatures will climb into the 80s again this afternoon. (Normal high temperatures for October 19 range from 74 to 80 degrees across the region.) South winds will result in a gradual rise in humidity.
Southerly winds will bring increasing Gulf moisture to the region through Friday. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will occur with heating of increasing moisture across the area. A few storms could become strong in the afternoon with gusty winds and small hail, especially along and south of I-20 . Highs will warm to near 80s with gusty south winds 15 to 20 mph.
There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. The better threat for more organized thunderstorms will be from late Saturday afternoon through mid morning Sunday, ahead of a strong cold front moving through during the early morning hours Sunday. Some severe storms containing damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a brief tornado or two will be possible. Locally heavy rainfall may result in localized minor flooding, though speed of the cold front should limit any potential for widespread, significant flooding. Expect gusty north winds behind the front on Sunday.
With the strong possibility of severe weather across the area late Saturday through early Sunday, this is a good time to review your severe weather terminology.
Low chances for showers and storms will occur through the end of the week, with increasing chances for localized, heavier rains with showers and storms moving along and ahead of a strong cold front. Here are the current estimations through Sunday morning. These forecast rainfall totals are subject to change if the system speeds up or slows down. Keep up with the latest forecasts regarding the rainfall expected through the weekend.
Looking ahead into early next week, nice Fall weather across the area. Another cold front will arrive, but this time it will bring dry and seasonably conditions. In general, high temperatures will stay in the low to mid 70s and the overnight lows will drop into the 40s by Wednesday morning.
