Snow Will Persist in the Northeast and Great Lake States

Heavy Lake Effect snow will continue to the lee of the Great Lakes for the next couple of days. Snow will also return to the Northeast by Tuesday as another front moves in. Bitter cold wind chills can be expected in the Upper Mississippi Valley. Freezing temperatures will even impact central Florida. Temperatures tonight will be in the mid 30s to low 40s across the region. Skies will be mostly clear with west/southwest winds between 5 to 10 mph.
Temperatures on Monday will be around 10-15 degrees above normal throughout the region. Winds will be out of the west between 5 to 10 mph, with mostly sunny skies.
With an elevated fire weather threat today, here are some tips to help prevent wildfires!
Here is the latest drought monitor (released 12/07/2017) for areas that are serviced by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. With below normal rainfall, drought conditions have worsened across North and Central TX over the past couple of weeks. Some parts of the area have worsened to attain D2 or Severe drought status. Little to no rain is expected over the next 3 to 5 days. As a result, there may be some fire weather concerns that crop up over the next several days.
Did you know that the shortest day of the year is just a few days away? On that day, we (North & Central TX) will have approximately 10 hours of daylight. This is around 4 hours less daylight than on June Solstice. The Winter Solstice (when we start the astronomical winter) will be on Thursday December 21st, 2017.
