Origial Data taken from FSL data set and converted to shapefile. The TIGER/Census data set was converted to shapefile and duplicate entries were identified and the census version was retained. Cities that were in water on the 1:200,000 county data sets were identified. Used TIGER/Line files polygons to identify a location to move the point to be within city limits and on land.

An ArcView Avenue Script was written to convert the data to and from shapefile to the text file used in the AWIPS system called CitiesInfo.txt. Updates to this shapefile are made when individual Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) make local changes to their copy of citiesInfo.txt and submit the new version to NWS headquarters for the update of the national data set.
