Invite you to attend our Community Open House!
Saturday, April 28th, 2018
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT / 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. MDT
- Who: National Weather Service, Goodland, KS / City of Goodland / Sherman County
- Where: 920 Armory Road, Goodland, KS 67735
- Parking Information: Free parking will be available near the intersection of Caldwell Avenue and Armory Road. Additional information available closer to the event.
- Event is weather dependent! If adverse weather is anticipated, the event will be rescheduled and notifications will be sent out days ahead of the Open House.
Food will be available for purchase courtesy of Northwest Kansas Technical College.
Things to Do:
At NWS Goodland:
- Meet Owlie Skywarn, the official safety mascot of the NWS
- Issue your own severe thunderstorm or tornado warning
- Meteorologists will be available to answer questions you may have about the weather
- Provide a look into how a forecast is created
- Enjoy brief presentations about what we do here and what weather the High Plains can experience
- Take a step inside the fire and severe weather simulation trailer
- Learn about weather balloons; a weather balloon release will be performed at 1 p.m. to cap off the day
At Goodland Police Department (formerly the Armory):
- You could win a chance to ride in a medical helicopter if you have the winning raffle ticket! Note: if an emergency arises, the helicopter must tend to patients immediately and would be unavailable for rides.
- Sherman County Sheriff's "Touch-A-Truck": take a look inside of emergency service vehicles
- Rescue and highway equipment will also be available for viewing
- Take a tour of the Goodland Police Department
- Other public safety information and agencies will be there to keep you prepared

From the North:
- Go south down KS Highway 27.
- Turn left (east) onto County Road 67
- Continue straight (south) onto N Caldwell Avenue for about a mile
- Take a left onto Armory Road
From the South (beginning at I-70):
- If on Interstate 70, take exit 17 for KS Highway 27.
- Go north on KS Highway 27 for 4 miles
- Turn right (east) onto County Road 67
- Continue straight (south) onto N Caldwell Avenue for about a mile
- Take a left onto Armory Road
Activity Information:
No Drugs, Weapons, Alcohol, or Smoking Allowed on Premises.
No Bags allowed in either building. No pets allowed but Service Animals are permitted.
