...SMALL TORNADO CONFIRMED IN GASTON COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS
COMPLETED ITS SURVEY OF THE SEVERE WEATHER DAMAGE IN GASTONIA ON
FRIDAY JANUARY 5 2007.

DAMAGE ASSOCIATED WITH A SMALL TORNADO WAS SURVEYED IN THE AUTUMN
ACRES SUBDIVISION. THE TORNADO TRACK WAS 400 YARDS LONG AND 20
YARDS WIDE. THE TORNADO DAMAGED EIGHT HOMES WITH MOST OF THE
DAMAGE OCCURRING TO ROOFS AND SMALL BUILDINGS. THE STORM HIT AT
445 PM EST AND WAS BASED ON THE TIME OF THE POWER FAILURE IN THE
SUBDIVISION.

BASED ON THE DAMAGED SURVEYED...THE STRONGEST WINDS WERE ESTIMATED
AT 70 MPH. THIS CORRESPONDS TO AN F0 TORNADO ON THE FUJITA SCALE.
