...TORNADO CONFIRMED IN ELBERT COUNTY GEORGIA...

THE GREENVILLE SPARTANBURG OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
HAS COMPLETED ITS STORM SURVEY IN SOUTHERN ELBERT COUNTY GEORGIA.
A TORNADO DAMAGE TRACK WAS FOUND JUST NORTH OF THE BROAD RIVER
NEAR THE GEORGIA - SOUTH CAROLINA BORDER.

THE 7.3 MILE TRACK EXTENDED FROM 2 MILES SOUTHEAST OF FORTSONIA
GEORGIA TO BOBBY BROWN STATE PARK. WIND SPEEDS WERE ESTIMATED TO
BE BETWEEN 115 AND 125 MPH BASED ON THE DAMAGE TO HOMES AND TREES
ALONG COOTER CREEK ROAD. THIS ESTIMATE IS BASED ON THE LOSS OF
HALF THE ROOF ON A HOUSE AND A BOAT DOCK THAT FLEW 25 FEET UP THE
SIDE OF THE HILL AND LANDED ON THE REMAINING HALF OF THE ROOF.
THIS RATES THE TORNADO AS AN EF-2 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE.

THE FIRST STORM DAMAGE WAS REPORTED NEAR FORTSONIA AT 420 PM EDT.
A TORNADO WATCH WAS IN EFFECT AT THE TIME AND A TORNADO WARNING
HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR ELBERT COUNTY AT 355 PM EDT.
