1145 AM EST SAT NOV 28 2003


 AVERY COUNTY...FROM 4 TO 5 INCHES WITH HEAVY SNOW AT 920 AM AT BEECH 
MOUNTAIN AND 11 DEGREES...HAD WARMED TO 14 DEGREES AT 1130 AM.  ONE 
INCH OR LESS AROUND NEWLAND EARLY THIS MORNING.


BUNCOMBE COUNTY...SNOW DEPTH VARIED AROUND THE COUNTY THIS MORNING 
FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES. THERE WERE NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS WHEN IT BEGAN 
ACCUMULATING LAST NIGHT AND AGAIN EARLY THIS MORNING.  NO REPORTS OF 
SNOW AT 10 AM...BUT IT WAS SNOWING AROUND 7 AM.


BURKE COUNTY...1 TO 2 INCHES AT JONAS RIDGE WITH STILL SOME LIGHT 
SNOW OCCURRING IN THE MID MORNING. NO SNOW REPORTED AROUND MORGANTON.


GRAHAM COUNTY...ONE INCH OF SNOW AROUND MUCH OF THE COUNTY EARLY 
THIS MORNING.


HENDERSON COUNTY...ONLY NORTHERN PARTS OF THE COUNTY HAD ANY SNOW ON 
THE GROUND.  SNOW HAD NEARLY COVERED ALL GRASSY AREAS AT THE 
ASHEVILLE REGIONAL AIRPORT AT MIDNIGHT...WITH SANDING OF ICY BRIDGES 
AND OVERPASSES BEING DONE AT THAT TIME. AN ACCIDENT HAD OCCURRED 
AROUND OR BEFORE MIDNIGHT ON THE FRENCH BROAD RIVER BRIDGE ON 
HIGHWAY 280. FLURRIES ENDED IN THE MID MORNING.
 

HAYWOOD COUNTY...GENERALLY ONE INCH IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. 2 TO 3 
INCHES IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. SOME SLICK ROADS. ONLY A DUSTING 
AROUND CRUSO. 1 TO 3 INCHES AROUND MOUNT PISGAH. A FEW ACCIDENTS 
THIS MORNING. FLURRIES IN SOME AREAS IN THE MID MORNING.


JACKSON COUNTY...AN INCH OR LESS IN SYLVA. ONE TO TWO INCHES 
OCCURRED OVERNIGHT AROUND SYLVA. UP TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW IN THE 
HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE BALSAMS...EVEN ABOVE CASHIERS. AFTER THE 
RAIN LATE FRIDAY...THIS FROZE IN A SHEET OF ICE AND THEN SNOW FELL 
ON TOP OF THAT.


MACON COUNTY...2 INCHES REPORTED OVERNIGHT AROUND MUCH OF THE 
COUNTY...WITH AT LEAST 2 AT HIGHLANDS. THERE WERE SEVERAL TRAFFIC 
ACCIDENTS OVERNIGHT.


MADISON COUNTY...1 INCH IN THE MARSHALL AREA REPORTED EARLY THIS 
MORNING. UP TO 3 INCHES IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. 


MITCHELL COUNTY...GENERALLY AROUND ONE INCH AROUND THE COUNTY...WITH 
SOME HIGHER AMOUNTS IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS. SNOW STARTING TO MELT ON 
BLACK TOP SURFACES.


SWAIN COUNTY...2 TO 3 INCHES AROUND CHEROKEE. HIGHWAY 441 WAS CLOSED 
THROUGH THE PARK THIS MORNING. ONLY A DUSTING AROUND BRYSON CITY. 
GENERALLY AROUND AN INCH OVERNIGHT IN THE COUNTY WITH SLICK ROADS.

YANCEY COUNTY...1 TO 2 INCHES ACROSS THE COUNTY REPORTED 
OVERNIGHT...WITH 4.5 INCHES REPORTED ON MOUNT MITCHELL THROUGH 
AROUND 10 AM. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TELL AT 11 AM IF SNOW WAS STILL 
FALLING ON MOUNT MITCHELL OR IF JUST BLOWING AROUND. THE LOW 
TEMPERATURE ON MOUNT MITCHELL WAS 5 DEGREES AND HAS WARMED TO 14 
DEGREES AT 1115 AM.  ROADS WERE SLICK AROUND LOWER ELEVATIONS WITH 
FLURRIES REPORTED THERE IN THE MID MORNING.

IN NORTH CAROLINA...

HENDERSON COUNTY...3 INCHES REPORTED IN THE EXTREME NORTHEAST PART 
OF THE COUNTY. 

HAYWOOD COUNTY...3 INCHES OF ACCUMULATION IN WAYNESVILLE...A LITTLE 
MORE IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. SEVERAL AUTO ACCIDENTS.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY...2 INCHES OF ACCUMULATION. SEVERAL ACCIDENTS 
REPORTED ON HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATES NEAR ASHEVILLE.

MACON COUNTY...2 INCHES REPORTED IN HIGHLANDS. AROUND 1 INCH OF SNOW 
IN MANY AREAS IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE COUNTY. 1/4 INCH OF SNOW 
IN FRANKLIN. TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS EVERYWHERE.

YANCEY COUNTY...1 TO 2 INCHES ACROSS THE COUNTY. ROADS ARE SNOW COVERED.

SWAIN COUNTY...AROUND AN INCH OF ACCUMULATION. ROADS COVERED AND 
SLICK ACROSS THE COUNTY.

JACKSON COUNTY...1 TO 2 INCHES REPORTED NEAR SYLVA. COVERED AND  
SLICK ROADS.

GRAHAM COUNTY...AN INCH OF SNOW ON THE GROUND IN ROBBINSVILLE. 

AVERY COUNTY...NO NEW REPORTS OF SNOW ACCUMULATION. NO RECENT ROAD 
PROBLEMS.
