...SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK...

AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE ACROSS PORTIONS OF
THE WESTERN CAROLINAS THIS MORNING...MAINLY AFFECTING AREAS NORTH
OF I-40. THESE STORMS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE SOME STRONG WIND GUSTS
AS THEY MOVE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MOUNTAINS
...AND AN ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUST OR TWO WILL BE POSSIBLE. THIS
AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN AS IT MOVES
EAST OF THE BLUE RIDGE.

HOWEVER...AS INSTABILITY INCREASES THIS AFTERNOON...ADDITIONAL
SHOWERS AND STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG A TROUGH OF LOW
PRESSURE IN THE LEE OF THE APPALACHIANS...AND POSSIBLY ALONG
OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES LEFT BEHIND BY THIS MORNINGS STORMS. IN
ADDITION...AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA
DURING THE AFTERNOON...ENHANCING THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. AT THIS TIME...THERE IS STILL SOME
UNCERTAINTY AS TO THE CHARACTER OF THE AFTERNOON STORMS. IT IS
POSSIBLE THAT THUNDERSTORMS COULD ORGANIZE INTO A LARGE LINE OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...POSSIBLY PRODUCING FAIRLY WIDESPREAD
SEVERE WEATHER. HOWEVER...IT IS MORE LIKELY THAT AFTERNOON STORMS
WILL REMAIN SCATTERED...RESULTING IN A MORE LOCALIZED SEVERE
WEATHER THREAT. THE MAIN THREAT WITH THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON
WILL BE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS OF UP TO 70 MPH...AND LARGE HAIL TO
THE SIZE OF QUARTERS.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA ALL HAZARDS WEATHER RADIO OR LOCAL NEWS MEDIA
FOR THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION.
