Today will be noticeably cooler under a mostly cloudy sky. There is a slight chance of a shower or two, but most areas will not receive rainfall today. High temperatures will climb into the upper 50s to lower 60s at most locations.
A few of the thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening could be strong to severe. Most of the thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts of up to 40 mph. However, isolated wind gusts up to 60 mph will be possible, mainly south of the Alabama-Tennessee state line.
After a break in the more widespread precipitation on Friday, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will increase Saturday. Numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible beginning Saturday evening and continuing into Sunday. Some of the storms may become severe, with gusty winds and heavy rainfall the main threats. Uncertainty remains high on the timing of the higher threats and there may be two separate waves of storms.
This graphic contains daily climate data (climate normals and records) for today for the sites listed. The legend is in the lower left portion of the image. The current "normals" period is 1981-2010. The date for each location represents the year in which the first observations began. However, some weather elements were recorded and/or retained before others at some sites. For example, at Huntsville, precipitation records begin in 1894, but official temperature records start in 1907. Following is a list containing the starting year that continuous weather records began at each site. Location: Year Temperature Records Began/Year Precipitation Records Began... Huntsville:1907/1894... Muscle Shoals:1893/1893... Cullman:1907/1907... Fayetteville:1957/1935... Guntersville:1910/1904... Russellville:1953/1953... Scottsboro:1891/1891...
