Isolated to scattered storms possible tonight along the cold front. The main threat will be gusty winds and brief heavy downpours. Storms remain below severe limits.
Your Memorial Day forecast will feature generally warm conditions with temperatures warming into the lower 80s for most locations. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue as a cold front drifts southward across the area. The best chances for showers and storms (40-50%) will be in southern portions of the area, generally south of the Tennessee River, which will be closer to the front. Rain and storm chances continue each day this week as the front lingers to our south.
This graphic contains daily climate data (climate normals and records) for today for the sites listed. The legend is in the lower left portion of the image. The current "normals" period is 1981-2010. The date for each location represents the year in which the first observations began. However, some weather elements were recorded and/or retained before others at some sites. For example, at Huntsville, precipitation records begin in 1894, but official temperature records start in 1907. Following is a list containing the starting year that continuous weather records began at each site. Location: Year Temperature Records Began/Year Precipitation Records Began... Huntsville:1907/1894... Muscle Shoals:1893/1893... Cullman:1907/1907... Fayetteville:1957/1935... Guntersville:1910/1904... Russellville:1953/1953... Scottsboro:1891/1891...
