As we celebrate Washington's Birthday today in the Tennessee Valley, temperatures will be unseasonably warm! Values this afternoon will top out in the lower to middle 70s in most spots, with a few locations in the higher elevations topping out in the middle to upper 60s. For reference, normal highs this time of year are usually in the lower 50s.
Rain chances will increase after midnight tonight, with morning lows falling into the middle to upper 50s. Clouds will increase by morning as well, making for partly to mostly cloudy conditions by sunrise Tuesday morning.
The week ahead will be unseasonably warm, with near-record to record high temperatures expected by Friday. After a few days of hit or miss showers, a cold front will arrive on Friday, dropping temperatures from close to 80-degrees back down into the upper 50s/lower 60s by Saturday.
This graphic contains daily climate data (climate normals and records) for today for the sites listed. The legend is in the lower left portion of the image. The current "normals" period is 1981-2010. The date for each location represents the year in which the first observations began. However, some weather elements were recorded and/or retained before others at some sites. For example, at Huntsville, precipitation records begin in 1894, but official temperature records start in 1907. Following is a list containing the starting year that continuous weather records began at each site. Location: Year Temperature Records Began/Year Precipitation Records Began... Huntsville:1907/1894... Muscle Shoals:1893/1893... Cullman:1907/1907... Fayetteville:1957/1935... Guntersville:1910/1904... Russellville:1953/1953... Scottsboro:1891/1891...
