Thursday will see an increase in cloud cover, with most of the area seeing mostly cloudy skies by midday. Much of the area will see warmer conditions than Wednesday, with areas along and west of Interstate 65 rising into the lower 70s. Cool air will linger across northeast Alabama and southeastern middle Tennessee, where high temperatures will only reach the lower to mid 60s.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday as the next storm system moves into the region. While multiple rounds of storms are possible, the main severe weather threat is currently expected to occur Saturday afternoon and evening, after 1-4 PM. However, the timing of Saturday's weather remains uncertain and additional changes are possible. The main threats are damaging winds, with lesser threats for large hail, tornadoes, and flooding.
This graphic contains daily climate data (climate normals and records) for today for the sites listed. The legend is in the lower left portion of the image. The current "normals" period is 1981-2010. The date for each location represents the year in which the first observations began. However, some weather elements were recorded and/or retained before others at some sites. For example, at Huntsville, precipitation records begin in 1894, but official temperature records start in 1907. Following is a list containing the starting year that continuous weather records began at each site. Location: Year Temperature Records Began/Year Precipitation Records Began... Huntsville:1907/1894... Muscle Shoals:1893/1893... Cullman:1907/1907... Fayetteville:1957/1935... Guntersville:1910/1904... Russellville:1953/1953... Scottsboro:1891/1891...
