August 18th 2019 train derailment

Overview

A southeast moving line of severe storms produced widespread 60 to 70 mph winds which derailed 140 rail cars near the town of Walton in Harvey county. The majority of the train cars were empty and were double stacked. The wind sensor at the Newton Airport reported a 67 mph gust around the time the train was derailed. Luckily there were no injuries associated with this event. This same line of storms also produced damage near El Dorado Lake.

Strong winds from overnight storms caused a couple trains to have their cars blown over in Walton. There were no injuries, and no danger to the public. Cleanup is underway by BNSF.
