All this week, we will be posting information on our operations, the National Weather Service in general, educational messages, and ways for you to participate. Hopefully by the end of the week, you will have a better idea of what we look to accomplish on a daily basis.

Did You Know that our office issues aviation forecasts for the aiports in Peoria, Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, and Bloomington? Accurate forecasts are critical for planning landing locations and specific flight routes, as delays and cancellations are very costly to the aviation industry.

Did You Know that our office issues fire weather forecasts? These forecasts assist in planning prescribed and controlled burns, and the prevention, suppression, and management of wildfires. They are available on our web page at this address: https://www.weather.gov/ilx/fire
