Meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Louisville were out on the road Friday, visiting key partners and familiarizing themselves with how forecasts can help improve efficiency, safety, and economic impact. The first stop was at Huntingburg airport in Dubois County Indiana where forecasters met with the local airport manager, pilots, and business owners. Meteorologists spoke with the local officials to get a better feel for specific local weather impacts on airport operations. The group then explored the airport grounds, and viewed the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). Both sides gained insight in ways they could help each other, and came away with a stronger relationship.

The second stop was at the Tell City, IN Ranger District for the Hoosier National Forest, where forecasters met with Fuels Specialist Ryan Otto to discuss how our forecasts impact planning, efficiency, and safety with everyday operations, prescribed burns, and wildfire activity. Specific burns were cited as ways to learn how the weather can impact Fire Management Officers' decisions to proceed with a burn, and how smoke from the fire can impact localized areas.
