SkyWarn Storm Spotter

Train and volunteer under the guidance of the National Weather Service (NWS) and provide ground-truth information through visual observation. By attending a spotter training class given by the NWS St. Louis you'll learn how to gather and relay real-time observations of severe weather events (tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, flooding, and winter weather). Reports assist NWS meteorologists in making warning decisions and as a spotter you will fulfill the NWS mission of protecting life, property, and your local community with life saving information.

Community Collaberative Rain, Hail and Snow Network

CoCoRaHS is a unique opportunity for you to get involved in a non-profit, community based network of volunteers working together to provide precipitation measurements (rain, hail and snow). Through training and education, use of low-cost measuring tools, and utilizing an interactive website you can provide daily precipitation measurements direct to your local NWS. Accurate high-quality precipitation data is used by a plethora of national and local agencies for situations ranging from water resource analyses, severe storm warnings, and simple comparison.

Cooperative Observer Program

The NWS COOP is the Nation's weather and climate observing network of, by and for the people. The COOP provides you the greatest opportunity to observe meteorological data in the form of daily maximum and minimum temperatures, snowfall, and 24-hour precipitation totals. By doing so you define the climate of the United States and aid in helping measure long-term climate changes. Volunteering requires dedication but the NWS will always be on-hand to provide you the training and supervision you will need to perform your duties.
