July 2006 Ranks as 8th Warmest at Lubbock

THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR JULY 2006 AT LUBBOCK
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WAS 82.8 DEGREES, WHICH WAS 3.0 DEGREES ABOVE
THE NORMAL OF 79.8 DEGREES. SINCE TEMPERATURE RECORDS BEGAN IN 1914,
JULY 2006 NOW RANKS AS THE 8TH WARMEST JULY. THE MAIN REASON
FOR THE TOP TEN WARMTH WAS DUE TO A DAILY AVERAGE HIGH FOR THE
MONTH OF 96.0 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 4.1 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE
AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 69.7 DEGREES OR 2.0 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

DESPITE NOT HAVING SET ANY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS...THE MONTH OF
JULY AS A WHOLE WAS CONSISTENTLY HOT AND DRY AS A STRONG UPPER
LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATED THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. THERE
WERE ONLY 3 DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL. THE COOLEST
TEMPERATURES OCCURRED ON THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS FROM JULY
4-6...WITH THE COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE ON JULY 5TH AT "ONLY" 87
DEGREES.

IN CONTRAST...THE MERCURY HIT OR EXCEEDED 100 DEGREES ON 9
DAYS...WITH THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURE OF 102 DEGREES ON JULY 13TH.
THE TOTAL NUMBER OF 100 DEGREE DAYS FOR 2006 NOW STANDS AT
22...WHICH IS MORE THAN DOUBLE THE AVERAGE OF 9 DAYS.
