Today's Flood Safety Awareness Week topic: National Weather Service Resources. Do you know the difference between a flood watch vs flood warning? A flood watch is issued when flooding is possible and and flood warning is issued when flooding is happening or will happen soon.
Skies should become mostly sunny this afternoon with highs topping out in the 60s statewide.
The Day 5 (Monday/Monday night) Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center features the potential for severe thunderstorms across portions of western Arkansas. Most likely timing appears to be Monday evening into Monday night with large hail the main hazard. Stay tuned for updates.

So far (through March 27th), 2024 has the second fewest tornadoes (2) since 2010. Other seemingly slow years became active such as 2011 (67 tornadoes in April/May) and 2014 (Mayflower/Vilonia Tornado on April 27th).
On this day in 1977, heavy rain fell across portions of Arkansas spanning from the 27th through the 28th. When all set and done, rainfall amounts in excess of six inches was recorded around the state. Flooding caused considerable damage to roads, bridges, and buildings. At Clinton, over 300 cattle drowned in low-lying areas. One person drowned in Richland Creek in Searcy County after his boat overturned. The Buffalo River at Saint Joe rose nearly 25 feet in 24 hours.
