On this day in 1977, heavy rain fell across portions of Arkansas spanning from the 27th through the 28th. When all set and done, rainfall amounts in excess of six inches was recorded around the state. Flooding caused considerable damage to roads, bridges, and buildings. At Clinton, over 300 cattle drowned in low-lying areas. One person drowned in Richland Creek in Searcy County after his boat overturned. The Buffalo River at Saint Joe rose nearly 25 feet in 24 hours.
