Since you are a member, (and I can't tell the difference between bug fixes and releases) you all get this email... Please let me know (email me) if you want to unregister. ----------- Main reason for this release, is to announce that: "WE NOW HAVE CONUS DATA!" As of 2/11/2003, NDFD started giving out CONUS Max / Min Temperature on the FTP site. For those using the "tkdegrib" GUI, you can "activate" your CONUS region for download by going to File->Configure, and then clicking on the "Regions" Tab, and highlighting "CONUS". Next at the bottom, click on the "Activate" button, and then on the "Ok" button. (Version "1.0" should have CONUS already "activated") (Another reason for this release is to welcome all the new people who I met at the AMS conference in Long Beach.) ----------- I have just finished putting together version "1.0" (last one was "0.98" on 2/6/2003) New to release 1.0: 1) Added the ability to parse "Weather" data (example: "Chc:R:-:<NoVis>:"). It now parses the "weather lookup" table, and stores it in the "MetaFile" (*.txt). Not sure where is the best place to store the "weather lookup" table. I Am thinking of modifying the .dbf file to hold it (assuming one creates the .shp file). Not sure how to handle it for the .flt files. 2) Minor Bug fix for PoP12 testsuite... The data in the PoP12 test suite is old, and in one particular section we had interpreted a descriptor field in the GRIB2 specs a different way than we currently are. The result is that one of the descriptor fields in the old data is very large when interpreted the current way. The test attempted to print out that very large number, and I didn't have enough memory allocated for it. 3) Minor Bug fix for Win98. The image generation code couldn't resize the images the way it does in Win2k, so we added an extra executable at the suggestion of the python 2 exe people. ----------- As always, I tested this release on my PC (win 2000), a Linux machine, a HP-Unix machine, and an AIX-Unix (machine). Although I may have missed something in my testing, it should at least compile, and run for some of the test cases. For those of you with access to the NWS suitland machine, my current version is in: /nfsuser/g06/we25at/degrib. For those with access to MDL's GDP or NHDW machines, see: ~taylor/degrib/ Please let me know if you have problems. ----------- Regards, Arthur
