Difficulties with both the AVN-based and MRF-based warm
season temperature developments led us to look more closely at
the characteristics of the 1000 mb temperature during recent model
changes. Most importantly, the T170 version of the Global Spectral Model
was implemented on June 15, 1998 at 12Z. An emergency implementation
was made on July 21, 1998 at 12Z, in part to correct a warm bias over land.
These diagnostics include model data interpolated to 329 stations in the
CONUS and Alaska.
