Drought conditions have improved across much of the area, but portions of western Ohio remain in Severe to Extreme Drought. 1 U.S. Drought Monitor Drought intensity and Extent D3 (Extreme Drought): Portions of the Auglaize/St. Mary’s River basins D2 (Severe Drought): Portions of west central Ohio D1 (Moderate Drought): Portions of central/NW Ohio and eastern Indiana. D0: (Abnormally Dry): Portions of central Ohio and east central Indiana. The U.S. Drought Monitor only considers conditions ENDING at 8am each Tuesday, so the rainfall that occurred after 8am Tuesday Nov 4 is NOT included in this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor Recent Change in Drought Intensity Four Week Drought Monitor Class Change. Drought Worsened: Most of the worsening changes have been in western Ohio. No Change: Spotty locations have not changed conditions since early September Drought Improved: Wide swaths of the region have received improvement since early October by 1 to 2 drought category levels, with much of the region no longer under any drought category. Precipitation Accumulations and Percent of Normal While 30 day precipitation has been near to above normal for much of the region, the exception is in the D3 affected areas of the Auglaize/St. Mary’s drainage. Temperature While the 30-day temperature trend has been at least near or slightly above normal for the mid to upper Ohio Valley, the most recent 7-day anomalies highlight the cooler air mass that was in place late October into the beginning of November. A new outlook will be issued at the end of November. At the time of this issuance, precipitation is expected to be near normal for the period of November 7-13. The 8-14 day outlook for the period November 14-20 is leaning toward above normal precipitation.
