High risk of dangerous rip currents continues across the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches through the entire weekend. This means that the surf is dangerous to ALL levels of swimmers. Please follow the advice of beach patrol and beach flag systems.
In addition to a HIGH Risk of rip currents, there is also a High Surf Advisory and Coastal Flood Advisory in effect this weekend. High surf of 5 to 8 feet is expected late in the weekend. Coastal flooding of 2 to 3 feet above ground level is expected along low lying areas of the coast, bay and sounds during periods of high tide this weekend.
A line of showers and storms will spread across the region Sunday afternoon into late Sunday night. Some storms could become severe with damaging winds, hail (nickel to quarter size), and a few tornadoes. The most favored location for severe weather will be across southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama (along and west of I-65 in the Slight Risk area). A Marginal Risk of severe storms extends east across the rest of south central Alabama and northwest Florida. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and check back for updates.
Heavy rainfall is possible late Sunday afternoon and night. Rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches with localized higher amounts will be possible for areas west of I-65 through the overnight hours on Sunday (and across parts of northwest Florida). This heavy rainfall will lead to a limited threat of flooding. Stay tuned for updates.
