Explanation of Statements Issued by Local Offices
Product Usage Flash Flood Warning Warns of a rapidly developing flooding occurring within 6 hours of the causative event. [FFW] Flash Flood Statement Provides information that supplements earlier Flash Flood Warning. [FFS] Flood Watch Identifies areas where there is a risk of flooding, but flooding is not certain. [FFA] Flood Warning Warns of floods developing more than 6 hours after causative event. May provide information on forecast stream levels and describe impacts of past flooding at forecast levels. [FLW] Flood Statement Updates or expands information in previously issued Flood Warning. [FLS] Hydrologic Outlook Provides long lead time information about flood potential or water supply conditions. [ESF] Hydrologic Statement River forecasts and related information. May include stage levels, flow volume, current speed and water temperatures. [RVS] Hydrologic Summary Summarizes recent rainfall and river stages, and where appropriate, information on ice conditions. [RVA] Daily River and Lake Summary Provides routine river and lake information. [RVD] National Flood Summary Provides a nationwide summary of recent flooding. [FLN]
Hydrometeorological DiscussionProvides an overview of current and expected hydrometeorological conditions across a River Forecast Center area of responsibility. Information may include: (1) antecedent precipitation, (2) existing streamflow conditions, (3) future precipitation events of hydrologic interest, and (4) expected river trends and potential for flooding. [HMD]
Water Supply OutlookProvides extended forecast of the amount of water that will flow past a river location over a period of time (months or seasons). It is also used to provide (hydrologic) drought information. [ESS] River Recreation Statement Provides information on current and forecasted river and lake conditions. [RVR] River Ice Statement Provides information on river ice locations, extent and thickness. [RVI]
