| The NWS Requirements and Change
Management Branch is responsible for the management and administration
of the change control process for the Radiosonde Replacement
System (RRS). This effort will replace the current network
of obsolete radiosonde observing systems with a modern system that
improves data availability and accuracy, operates within a reduced
frequency spectrum, and is more efficient to operate and maintain.
The RRS is comprised of a new Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking
antenna, state-of-the-art GPS radiosondes operating at 1680MHz, a new
workstation to display tabular and graphical meteorological data, instruments
to provide surface weather parameters at balloon release point, and
software. The RRS will provide a high-resolution data set to weather
forecasters, climate researchers, and other users of upper-atmospheric
data. |
