The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is an integrated suite of automated data processing equipment
that supports complex analysis, interactive processing, display of hydrometeorological data, and the rapid dissememination
of warnings and forecasts in a highly reliable manner.
The AWIPS Support Branch Mission is to provide operations support for the AWIPS program.
This includes
- Acting as the principal liaison with the regions and field offices for their systems operations
support and site system management activities.
- Coordinating the validation and testing of major AWIPS software release
installation procedures and providing Software Installation Manager services.
- Working with the Network Control Facility to diagnose site operations problems and coordinate
corrective actions of the problem resolution.
- Operations and maintenance budget formulation and provision of COTR services for the prime operations
and maintenance support contract.
The branch also provides technical support to NOAAPORT and AWIPS local data acquisition and dissemination interface
specifications and procedures development in coordination with the Engineering, Logistics, and Acquisition Division
and Office of Science and Technology. The Branch is responsible for developing AWIPS system operations directives for
use by the NWS field staff and represents OOS in the coordination with the Offices of Services, Science and Technology,
and Hydrologic Development for the changes in the requirements for AWIPS system operations and its planned product
improvements.
