Function: The Program Performance and Awareness Division
(PPAD) is responsible for ensuring the NWS remains focused on customer
and partner needs, assesses NWS performance and customer satisfaction,
measures the accuracy and timeliness of NWS products, and conducts reviews
following extreme events to enhance effectiveness and promote efficiencies
PPAD is the liaison to the Federal
Emergency Management Agency, the 27 Federal Agencies supporting the
Federal
Response Plan, the 19 Federal agencies that make up the Office of
Science and Technology Policy's Subcommittee for Natural Disaster Reduction,
emergency management community, media, non-government organizations such
as the American
Red Cross, and volunteer groups to ensure a coordinated response to
extreme weather, water, and climatic events. The division works with these
and other hazard related organizations to create create awareness and
preparedness materials. These materials assist local officials and the
public to prepare and respond to warnings for extreme events.
PPAD works with the Operations and Requirements Division to set policy
on the delivery of services through NWS and other dissemination systems.
This ensures NWS products and services receive the necessary distribution.
PPAD is a conduit for government and private weather data and information
requests. The division also works with government attorneys and oversees
preparation of NWS statements and witnesses in support of major accident
investigations and weather-related litigation activities involving the
Federal government.
