AHPS Receives Many Favorable Comments
- May 2005
“I have been searching for river
stage information, both forecast
and historical, since the floods
in the spring of 1997 at Stillwater
, MN . The AHPS site has been very
helpful and, although the longer
range forecasts issued in the Jan
- March timeframe have not proven
to be very accurate in the past,
they are still useful in looking
at the existing picture of current
conditions vs historical expectations.” (2.6.2005)
“Wonderful site! We have a cabin
on the river and this gave us the
information we need to let us know
when we could get in and access any
damage.” (1.22.2005)
“You have a very good, well produced
informative web site, one of the

“Your accurate forecast on…helped
us save our home. It allowed us to
predict how much time we had to get
supplies, sump pumps, sandbags, and
ext. to fight the flood water. Also
by your chart we can predict which
roads will be closed sooner so we
can travel around flooded road to
get to work. Thank You, Thank You!” (1.10.2005)
“For a person who lives a long the
Ohio river it is a great tool to
keep track of conditions. Even though
I don't understand some of the technical
terms, the basics keep me well ahead
of problems.” (1.9.2005)
“I would like to say this is a very
informative site. My husband and
I thank you very much. The Meramec
[River] in Eureka is our front yard.
We use this site only. By our scale,
you are only 2 feet more than we
are. We check back every 4 hours
to make our decisions in moving anything.” (1.6.2005)
“I count on this at each flood.
As I live on the river, it helps
me see from work what is going on
at home, and I am able to plan my
flood-proofing better.” (1.6.2005)
“Hey, Thanks for a great job. We
don't always get an opportunity to
check our property on the Kankakee
River and looking at your site helps
us determine if we should scurry
on down to batten down the hatches.

“I am an avid fisherman and often
fish the White River several times
per week. Forecasts of river levels
and reports of the current river
level are of great assistance to
me in assessing where and when I
should fish. I greatly appreciate
the work that goes into providing
this service on the web. Thank you
very much.”
