WFO Albany Pleased With FFMP

"I was really pleased with the way FFMP worked during our recent flood events," stated Tim Scrom, Service Hydrologist at WFO Albany. "Overall, I think FFMP is the best tool Hydro has brought out in the past 20 years."

Areas around Albany experienced off and on flash flood problems from August 3-15, 2003 with the worst flooding occurring in Saratoga County over the weekend of August 9- 11, 2003. Several hundred thousand dollars worth of damage occurred and many highway roads were under water.

Across the National Weather Service's (NWS) Eastern Region (ER), 81 flash flood events occurred. On Sunday August 10th, 18 NWS Weather Forecast Offices in ER issued 46 flash flood warnings effecting 51 counties in 13 states. Preliminary average lead-time for yesterdays flash flood warnings is 39 minutes."

"Eastern Region has been in a very active weather pattern, which has kept our field offices very busy since June," stated Peter Gabrielson, Regional Hydrologist for the Eastern Region.
