As a strong cold front moves over the region, a few severe thunderstorms appear possible late in the afternoon and early evening. Large hail will be the main severe weather concern.

Rain/storm chances are much higher and more widespread with a system coming through Friday night through Saturday. Severe storms are not expected. Most of the storms will be seen south of I-40, where storm total rainfall amounts could reach 1 to 2 inches by Sunday morning.

Local Weather History For April 18th...

On this date back in 1959, a severe thunderstorm moved southeast
across the Chattanooga area, dumping 4 inches of rain in 30 minutes,
along with hail up to an inch in diameter, which piled up over a foot
deep in bar ditches. Hail up to one and one-half inches in diameter
also caused roof damage across south Oklahoma City.
