Heavy Snow For Portions of the Northeast; Great Lakes

Moderate to heavy snow will return to the Northeast and New England over the next couple of days. Heavy Lake Effect Snow will continue to the lee of the Great Lakes. November of 2017 was a very warm and generally dry month across south central and southeast Colorado, with a few  weather systems and associated cold fronts moving across the region through out the month. These weather systems brought some big temperature swings, especially across the eastern plains, along with some light rain and snow across the region. For the month as a whole, well above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation were experienced across south central and southeast Colorado, save for at or above normal precipitation across portions of the central mountains.  

The following graphics depict monthly temperature and precipitation departures from normal across the state for the past month of November.

 

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa through out the month of November was 38.4 degrees. This is an amazing 8.9 degrees above normal and makes November of 2017 the warmest November on record, crushing the previous record of 34.8 degrees set in November of 1965.  The average high temperature in Alamosa for the month of November was 57.7F, an amazing 10.8 degrees above normal, with the average low temperature for the month of November coming in at 19F, which is 6.9 degrees above the monthly average. Alamosa recorded 0.05 inches of precipitation through the month of November. This is 0.37 inches below normal, and only makes November of 2017 tied as the 15th driest November on record in Alamosa.  Alamosa recorded 0.2 inches of snow through out the month of November, which is 3.5 inches below normal. 

 

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of November was 45.5 degrees. This is 7.4 degrees above normal and makes November of 2017, tied with November of 1927, as the 2nd warmest November on record.  The average high temperature in Colorado Springs for the month of November was 59.5F, which is 8.5 degrees above normal, with the average low temperature for the month of November coming in at 31.6 degrees, which is 6.4 degrees above the monthly average.  Colorado Springs recorded 0.15 inches of precipitation through out the month of November, which is 0.25 inches below normal.  Colorado Springs recorded 0.7 inches of snow through out the month of November, which is 4.0 inches below normal. 

 

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo through out the month of November was 45.9 degrees. This  is 6.6 degrees above normal and makes November of 2017 the 2nd warmest November on record, just behind the 47.4 degrees recorded in November of 1949.  The average high temperature in Pueblo for the month of November was 62.6F, which is 6.5 degrees above normal, with the average low temperature for the month of November coming in at 29.2 degrees, which is 6.7 degrees above the monthly average.  Pueblo recorded 0.31 inches of precipitation through the month of November, which is 0.16 inches below normal. Pueblo recorded 1.4 inches of snow through out the month of November, which is 3 inches below normal.  

 

Looking ahead into December, in Alamosa,  the average high and low temperature of 39 degrees and 5 degrees on December 1st, cool to 34 degrees and -2 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of December in Alamosa is 17.9 degrees. Alamosa averages 0.35 inches of precipitation and 4.5 inches of snow through out the month of December.  

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperature of 44 degrees and 20 degrees on December 1st, cool to 42 degrees and 17 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of December in Colorado Springs is 29.8 degrees. Colorado Springs averages 0.34 inches of precipitation and 5.7 inches of snow through out the month of December.  On average, December is tied with February, as the 2nd driest month of the year in Colorado Springs.   

In Pueblo,  the average high and low temperature of 49 degrees and 17 degrees on December 1st, cool to 46 degrees and 14 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of December n Pueblo is 30.1 degrees. Pueblo averages 0.38 inches of precipitation and 5.5 inches of snow through out the month of December. On average, December is the third driest month of the year in Pueblo.
