BUFKIT is a forecast profile visualization and analysis tool kit developed by the staff at the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Buffalo and the Warning Decision Training Branch (WDTB) in Norman, OK. BUFKIT is used in the public, private, and educational meteorological sectors in both the US and Canada. BUFKIT is available to anyone who is interested in the analysis of forecast hourly profiles.
RUC replaced by the RAP. The RUC forecast model was recently replaced by the
RAP. Our web site now provides the RAP forecast profiles with a RAP filename. The links on this page
have been updated but you may need to check your download mechanism and replace RUC with RAP in the
model list in the Bufkit "Set up" which can be accessed from the upper right of the Bufkit
application. Note the "BufGet" profile has been updated for the name change.
The SREF Bufkit profiles now include the SREF ensemble
mean in addition to the 21 other SREF members.
We are now providing Bufkit forecasts from the NAM 4km
nest guidance. The filenames are notes as “nam4km”. The "BufGet"
profile has been updated with the new data set.
NWS Raleigh has created a "BufGet" Profile
which allows users to quickly and efficiently download Bufkit data from a GUI. The
"BufGet" Profile is configurable and can be edited based on your needs. The NWS Raleigh
"BufGet" Profile, noted as "R" for RAH is setup to download a handful of Bufkit
profiles for central NC for the RAP, NAM, GFS3, SREF, NAM4KM, ARW, tRAP, tNAM, and tGFS3. You can
download the NWS Raleigh "BufGet" Profile here and learn more about "BufGet" Profiles from this video.
