Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...UPDATED
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
1020 PM EDT Fri Oct 20 2017

.DISCUSSION...

...Dry weather through the weekend to give way to widespread
rainfall early next week...

High pressure will continue to keep our weather pattern dry heading
into and through the weekend. A potent cold front will approach and
cross the region Monday into Tuesday, bringing a return of showers
and gusty winds to the region. Drier weather returns to the area by
the middle to end of next week.

Minimum relative humidity values will be in the 30 percent to 40 percent
range, then steadily increase to well above 50 percent by Monday. Light
transport winds and a relatively shallow mixing height will create poor
dispersion and ventilation conditions into the weekend, but improving
conditions are expected as winds increase ahead of the approaching cold
front. Rainfall amounts of one half inch east of the Blue Ridge to two
inches in the mountains are possible from Monday into Tuesday.
