On Friday, thunderstorms are expected to develop across portions of north central Texas and move into Oklahoma by late morning. This line of storms will likely intensify across far eastern Oklahoma into western Arkansas by early afternoon. The primary severe weather threats with these storms will be damaging straight line winds and locally heavy rainfall. Additional storms may develop during the overnight hours Friday as the upper level low moves overhead. Thunderstorm chances will decrease from west to east Saturday as the upper low clears the area.
Continued strong south winds and warmer temperatures will result in elevated fire danger Friday ahead of an approaching upper level system and surface dryline/front. Moisture ahead of the dryline will keep RH values relatively high across far eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas even though strong winds will be a problem. However, behind the dryline, gusty and dry southwest winds of 25-35 mph will develop during the afternoon which will drop relative humidity values to around 20-25% mainly west of Highway 75. A fire weather watch remains in effect for Friday.
More strong or severe storms are possible late Sunday, primarily in the evening. The main threats will be from large hail and damaging winds.
