The National Weather Service (NWS) has scheduled a public Open House on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 900 a.m. to noon at 300 East Signal Drive in Rapid City, SD. Visitors will have the opportunity to (1) tour our facility with a free-flowing office tour, (2) see how weather forecasts and warnings are prepared, (3) meet our staff and ask them questions, (4) learn about historic weather that has impacted western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, and (5) get assistance in the programming of NOAA Weather Radio receivers. Near the end of the Open House, at 1130 AM, a special weather balloon release will be conducted and you will be able to see first-hand how we collect atmospheric weather data. Please plan to come out and learn more about our forecast office!
